Admiral Farragut Academy, a prestigious military boarding school with a Navy ROTC program, is just a few miles away on the waters of Boca Ciega Bay in St. Petersburg, Florida. Collaborating with Alison Lescarbeau, advancement director at AF, and graphic designer Jess Van Curen was a true pleasure as they welcomed my insight while working on location. They had identified specific themes and programs to feature in the 2013 viewbook and they recognized their need for vibrant imagery that showed student life amidst the school's historic centerpiece Farragut Hall.

A key component of the shoot was a photograph to advertise Admiral Farragut's varsity atheletics programs. The one hour window for this shot occurred in the midst of a jam-packed day filled with documenting classes and student life. The arrangement and layout of the students coupled with their stern looks proved critical to the execution of the photograph.

Below are a few standout images from the visual branding update for Admiral Farragut. Their new  viewbook for the upper division appears in an interactive online magazine.

Photographing a campus as unique as USF St. Petersburg, a prestigious university experience on the bay that feels like a small college, can be challenging in the heat of mid-July. For a recent rebranding and admissions marketing shoot to update print materials and showcase the new student center, we opted for an early call for students and we used small hand-held strobes to fill shadows.

Unlike the work that I recently completed for the University of the Tampa, which I mentioned in last week's blog post, this shoot was scouted well in advance with a tight timeline of choreographed images for advertising and marketing efforts. Splitting a full day of shooting into two half-days proved to be a forgiving way of managing the heat while still capturing a variety of images that are now being used to promote USF St. Petersburg. Below are a few highlights, a credit to the hard work of the Enrollment Services team of Holly Kickliter, Serge Desir and Scarlett Schiraldi.

The fall semester is well underway and this is my third year teaching photography as an adjunct at the University of Tampa. In the final weeks of the spring semester, Anne Rowland, art director, commissioned my team to spend a full day photographing campus to update marketing and admissions imagery as fresh imagery for the upcoming commencement exercise was needed.

Documenting a campus is often art directed and choreographed with strict shoot day timelines as schools often have very specific objectives with programs and new curriculums coming online. Working without an agenda and having a full day to roam until two afternoon classes seemed at first to be a daunting challenge. Within a few steps of the parking lot, however, I noticed a student running the bleachers of the track in the early light. This proved to be an auspicious start to a successful day of university photography and some of the more successful results are posted below.
